Osman Gazi The father of the Ottoman Empire, Osman Gazi was born in 1258 in the city of Sogut. His father’s name was Ertugrul Gazi and mother was Halima Sultana. Usman Ghazi was a tall man with a round face, dark complexion, narrow eyes and thick eyebrows. His shoulders were fairly large and his upper body was longer than the rest of his body.
He wore a Khazate-style Khorasan crown made of red broad cloth. Usman Ghazi was a brilliant leader. He was just, brave and merciful. He used to help the poor. Sometimes he gave his clothes to the poor. Every day at noon, he would give food to all the people in his house. Usman Ghazi succeeded to the leadership of the Kayi settlement in Sogu in 1281 at the age of only 23.
He married Malhun Sultana, daughter of the famous Umar. Malhun gave birth to Orhan, the heir to the Sultanate throne. Usman Ghazi appreciated Edebali’s (the famous Ahi Sheikh) opinion and respected him. He often visited Edebali’s house where a group of dervishes met in Eskisehir Sultanu and was his guest.
